“Siz\u00edgia, The Low Tide Cosmology” by Uiler Costa<\/a> captures the ever-changing landscapes surrounding Brazil through aerial photography.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Uiler Costa<\/a> is a visual artist and photographer based in Salvador. Through his photography, he seeks to study the visual patterns created by landscapes and their redistribution. Since 2017 he has dedicated himself to the “Siz\u00edgia” series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The series acts as research performed through the application of aerial photography. By observing the movement of the tide in the Itaparica Channel, Uiler is learning about how new landscapes are built. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uiler grew fascinated with capturing the movement of landscapes and the new perspectives of the uniquely built realities. His underlying interest began after he visited his childhood neighborhood of \u00c1guas Claras. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After witnessing the lack of contact with nature, Uiler grew a desire to discover new places. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Silence, scale, and perspective are compositional elements that allow us to reflect on how immersed we are in (prefabricated) realities.<\/p>Uiler Costa<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Before experiencing the landscapes through aerial means, Uiler prepared himself by exploring different perspectives from atop buildings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Viewing the images he captures as aesthetic vehicles \u2014 which allows for different perceptions of common spaces, Uiler aims to give back the possibilities of political-geographic imagination. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Siz\u00edgias” refers to the moments of connection where the sea, soil, and rivers build a new scenery. When producing images of the newly formed landscapes, it was important that Uiler listened closely to the evolution of the weather. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Natural variants such as the occurrence of low tide, air humidity, and light visibility have an effect on the type of territory that is built. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uiler has traveled to numerous different territories in Brazil to capture these unique landscapes. Currently, he has a collection of 25,000 images that were captured between 2017 and now. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uiler Costa<\/a> is a visual artist and photographer from Salvador, Brazil. He is passionate about creating imagery that emerges from landscapes and their sensitivity. Publications he has collaborated with include National Geographic Brasil, National Geographic Traveler UK, and Four Seasons, amongst others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
