How does consumerism influence us? And on whose expense do we consume? After several years in the industry, Lisa Jureczko asked herself these questions: In her editorial project KONSUMSUCHT, Lisa crafts a powerful visual statement about the fashion and beauty industry’s impact on the planet.
The editorial project is named “KONSUMSUCHT”, the German word for consumerism or consumption addiction. Featured on DesignScene, Lisa’s project merges fashion photography with social commentary, exploring the clash between mass production and conscious consumption.
As someone who is promoting social justice in every possible way, I knew that my photographic work had to become more political.

With this editorial, Lisa wanted to set an example for more consciousness in the fashion and beauty industry.
Through the use of layering as a stylistic device we’ve symbolized our societies’ mass production and shopping addiction – while at the same time utilizing fair fashion, vintage pieces and hand made products only.

This contrast between the excessive layering of clothing and the thoughtful selection of each item challenges viewers to consider the implications of over-consumption and mass production on a finite planet.
In today’s world, the fashion industry is often torn between greenwashed fast fashion and ethically produced garments. As the photographer points out, achieving a fully sustainable lifestyle may seem unattainable, but each individual can take steps to make a difference.
Everyone of us can contribute to a respectful treatment of nature, animals and human beings.
