In our last competition, Fabian Huebner was one of the chosen photographers to drive and photograph the Polestar 1. Today, we get to talk with him about his experience with Polestar in Hamburg.

This edition of the Polestar x Cherrydeck competition features the Polestar 2. To set the stage for this year’s journey, we have asked photographers who won the last competition to chat with us.

In this interview, we talked with Fabian Huebner, the Hamburg winner of the previous photography contest, to hear about his experience while driving a Polestar and his recommendations to this year’s enthusiasts.

Fabian Huebner
Fabian, we are delighted to speak to you today. To begin with, could you briefly introduce yourself?

Hello, it is a pleasure for me too. I’m a 26-year-old student from Schwarzwald and I’m currently studying Brand Design at the Design University in Hamburg, where I also spend most of my time during lecture periods.

When I have the time, I try to discover and also rediscover interesting places around Hamburg and through Germany. During my breaks, I mostly visit my family back home at the farmhouse I grew up at, or plan bigger tours through Europe with my car, not only to take landscape or adventure pictures, which are kind of my specialty but also to enjoy the great variety of nature that is all around us. That really inspires me.

What lead you to start with photography? And travel/landscape specifically?

To be honest, since I was a kid, I’ve always liked grabbing a camera and capturing things that interested me. As I already told you, I grew up at a farmhouse in the beautiful Schwarzwald, so practically nature was my playground for as long as I can remember. It has always fascinated me deeply and I never lost interest in that.

When I turned 18 and bought my first own car, I started road tripping through Europe and also had my camera always by my side. That’s actually where my journey on social media began a few years later.

You were one of the five winners of the Polestar competition in 2019. How was it to drive the Polestar 1 in Hamburg?

It was honestly a new experience for me, in many ways. I was never really into sports cars since they are not the most suitable for offroad terrain and I do mostly photo tours through wild landscapes with rough and stony roads. Usually, I need to stick to another sort of car.

With this experience, I looked forward to driving such a different car in the city, and I have to admit, I definitely found joy in it. The Polestar 1 can run by electricity entirely. It gave me interesting and real insights regarding the technologies which I hope are the future of vehicles sooner than later.

How would you describe the car? How was it to photograph it?

Well, the Polestar 1 is an extraordinary car. Its elegant and aesthetic design, paired with contemporary driving technology, makes it a real dream car. Polestar symbolizes the future of mobility and I think, that this very edition, marks the beginning of a new era of driving.

It shows that sustainability and performance can go along and even look sharp. Photographing it was more than fun — what else could it be when you have such a beautiful object in front of the camera, combined with the very interesting and picturesque architecture of Hamburg?

Did you have a favorite feature?

I don’t know exactly if that counts, but for me, my favorite feature would definitely be the electric engine.

From all the photographs you took of the Polestar 1, is there a favorite?

No. Since I photographed it in so many different compositions, different angles, backgrounds, environments, there are way too many captures I really like.

Any advice you would give to photographers who want to take part in the Polestar x Cherrydeck Journey with the Polestar 2?

Honestly, the only advice I can generally give is to have as much fun as possible and therefore really make the most of it.

We would like to thank Fabian for his time and the interview. To see more of Fabian’s work, visit his Cherrydeck profile or his website, here. To participate in this year’s driving and photography experience, visit this article.
