Brigitte Stanford

Cape Town, South Africa

Conceptual & Advertising | Editorial & Documentary

Brigitte Stanford has always been intrigued by light and motion thus AFDA was the obvious choice of further studies on completion of her schooling. After graduating in 2010 with a BA Degree and having Chaired the SRC she immediately kicked off her career with Producing an Indie film “There are no heroes”. The film achieved fantastic reviews and went on to win a Bronze Lourie in 2011. Stanford felt that her role in production still left her creative needs unattended and so in between being involved in production in the heady world of commercial service work in South Africa she began to explore photography. She joined a prominent Cape Town Production Company and was soon heading up their marketing department which included handling all of their social media requirements. This gave her the opportunity to live behind a lens and culminated in several exhibitions of her work as well as an iPhoneography award in 2014. This practical exploration was followed up by further studies at the Red and Yellow School (Digital Marketing 2015) and at Orms School of Photography. Stanford has shot on over 100 international television commercials, with portraits of people as diverse as Andy Green (land speed record holder) to Pondo tribe's people, Jimmy Nevis and Royals in Arabia. She has taught at Orms School of Photography & Vega College in Cape Town. She received another award from EyeEm for Most Eye Catching Pictures of the year in 2017. Dreamscapes and strong colours are prominent in her work wether she is shooting a lifestyle campaign, landscape or a fashion editorial. She has a contagious laugh and a determination beyond her years along with an incredible eye for the sublime and a willingness to hop in a car/truck/plane/sidecar/boat without notice if it means she can shoot something interesting. Photography is not enough for Stanford and so in 2017 she began to Load and Camera Assist and hopes to D.O.P. in the future. She is represented in her home country and internationally for her photography work.
