Carole Alkabes is a photographer of Swiss origin who studied in San Francisco where she obtained a BFA (Bachelor Fine Art) in photojournalism. After several years of traveling, she finally lays down her lens cases in Sainte-Croix in the Swiss Jura and opens her photography studio. It is there that she welcomes a diverse and international clientele enabling her to work with renowned artists such as HR Giger or Filip Leu. Her particular view of the world, at once accurate but not without audacity and humour, quickly gets her known. As an active member of Impressum, she is currently working for the press, including Tattoo Life magazine and Tattoo Energy. Seduced by all forms of visual expression, she also dives into long-term projects. She works all over Europe immersed in the world of tattoos and their bearers. This study reflects a series of portraits as well as document today's macrocosm of tattooing. The "Burlesque Intimacy" project, for instance, is part of an ongoing opus focused on tattoo aficionados. Moreover, as the author of “Martyrs – Les reliques oubliées” (Martyrs – The forgotten relics), she delves into a colossal project. For five years she carrries out a treasure hunt, reasearching for all the relics of Saints exhumed from Roman catacombs and hidden on Swiss soil. Travelling throughout the country, her quest will lead her to visit numerous abbeys, monasteries, convents, chapels and ossuaries. After extensive media coverage, historians themselves have been astonished by these reaserch, necessary as historical record as well as it is striking for its particular beauty. This study was recognized and praised for the contribution of cultural heritage.
