Cristian Calistru

Hi! My name is Cristian Calistru, I am from Piatra Neamț, Romania and I graduated from the “George Enescu” University of Visual Arts and Design in Iași, Photo-Video section. In my years of study I focused my activity on artistic photography, the subjects of the works being dominated by topics such as spirituality, psychology, folklore, mythology and mysticism. The time spent in the woods around the house had a great influence on the choice of themes, listening to folk-rock music from various cultures whose subjects are nature, legends and traditions. The process of self-knowledge revealed to me new paths of self-understanding, the subject of spiritual experiences being one of the aspects on which I felt it necessary to focus the most, this influencing the visual approaches of the works. Through photography, I urge the viewer to a contemplation of the soul, of life, of death and a search for one's own self, realizing a transposition of them in a space of stories with dark atmospheres. My photos are made digitally, but one of my goals for the next period is to create some analog projects. In the future I want to capture the essence of the message through visual approaches as simple as possible using well-chosen symbols and an organic effect.
