Until February 2013 I managed a multi-national editorial team in France and Germany as the editor in chief of the pan-European snowboard magazine Onboard. After leaving, I became a freelance photographer and writer and in 2015 began a long-term project documenting the refugee crisis in Northern France, entitled ‘Indeterminate State’. The project received wide recognition with photo essays published in The Guardian, The Express and Huck Magazine and photographs included in the 2017 Wells Arts Contemporary Exhibition and two portraits shortlisted for the 2017 Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize. The project was also featured on Magnumphotos.com. Since August 2018 I have been shooting a long-term project entitled TOGETHER (A)PART, documenting what the anbaptist Christian Community of The Bruderhof describe as ‘another life’. The project was published by Plough and received a Gold medal in the category of Peace in the 2021 Independent Publishers Book Awards in the US, an the independent publishers award at the 2021 Swindon Festival of Literature. The project will also be printed as a book by GOST in the autumn of 2021. TOGETHER (A)PART has also been well received inside and beyond the photographic community, with a photo essays published in the Sunday Times Magazine in 2019; The Guardian in 2020; a portrait included in the 2018 YICCA Contemporary Arts Exhibition, in Palermo, where it won a silver medal; photographs selected for the KLP International Portrait Prize in both 2019 (winner) and 2020 and exhibited world wide; The project received a Coups de Coeur de L’ANI at the 2019 Visa Pour L’Image and was a finalist at the 2019 Prix Regnier Award in Paris; Selected for the Studio 3 Galery winter exhibition 2019, at the University of Kent; Winter exhibition at Co-op Gallery, Folkestone. In 2020 I enrolled in the MA Photography course at Falmouth University, which I complete in the summer of 2022. Additional accolades in 2020 include photographs shown in the FORMAT21 MassIsolation Exhibition at the Derby Museum of Art; inclusion in FORMAT21 online exhibition; and a photograph selected by the National Archives to represent lockdown. Also in 2021 I was awarded the Gold Medal for the Leica Open Project Awards and selected as a finalist for the Wells Arts Contemporary Awards 2021.
