Ella Carman

Ella Carman is a documentary photographer concerned with photographing society as a fragment of the whole. She focuses on the essence of the subject and gives everything to execute an authenticity; honouring ring the often serious issues she is visually addressing. Ella has over ten years of documentary and commercial photography experience has worked in film and post-production earning three IMDB’s and was awarded a Ba Hons from Birmingham City University in Visual Communication/Photography & Film in 2015. She works independently covering social issues in Birmingham with an ever increasingly photojournalistic approach. Her work is recognised by charities such as Crisis and Shelter. Over the past few years Ella has worked closely with the homeless in Birmingham as well as those living in hostels, not only candidly photographically documenting her subjects but also recording their testimonies, revealing often shocking stories highlighting a variety of related issues such as social and family breakdown, struggles with mental health and addiction. Commercially, Ella has delivered work for The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, NHS Birmingham Community Health Care, NHS BSMHFT Liaison and Diversion Service, Birmingham City Council, Right Track Recruitment, Edge Consulting, Birmingham Review, Place Prospectors (Druids Heath Regeneration project ) amongst others and many independent organisations, artists and bands. Ella Carman was born in Solihull in 1983.
