Stephan Fröhlich is a German film producer, director, cameraman (member of the BVFK - Federal Association of TV Cameramen) and photographer. He is the managing director of the Dortmund-based film production company Format Fröhlich Filmproduktion and initiator of the Espelkamper SPITZiale short film festival. Stephan Fröhlich grew up in Espelkamp and attended the Ostlandschule elementary school in Espelkamp from 1995 to 1998, after which he completed his Abitur at the Söderblom grammar school in 2009. Stephan Fröhlich began producing sports videos, wedding videos and his first short films while still at school. Followed by an internship at the film production company Omnimago in Ingelheim, the desire to work in the film industry solidified. During his film directing studies at the Ruhrakademie Schwerte, which he graduated with a diploma in early 2015, he switched to the field of advertising film. As a result of this degree, Dortmund has been his adopted home since 2010. After a few years as a freelancer and a start-up grant from the Mediengründerzentrum NRW in 2013, Stephan Fröhlich and his father Günter Fröhlich decided in 2015 to found the film production company Format Fröhlich Filmproduktion with headquarters in Dortmund. Within their family business, they produce conceptual moving images and marketing campaigns in the areas of advertising, cross media, social media, image film, brand film, product video and music video. In the meantime, the company has been expanded to include another facility in Roßbach (Wied). Stephan Fröhlich has also been teaching as lead lecturer at the Akademie Deutsche POP in Bochum since 2015 in the courses camera assistant, cameraman and film editor. Since the introduction of the Bachelor's degree in October 2021, he has also been responsible for the Bachelor's management. Here he passes on his artistic and technical knowledge directly from practice to the students. As a director and cameraman, he has been involved in numerous internationally award-winning short film projects, commercials and music videos. The last short film "Malou", in which he was a DoP, made it into the selection at the 2020 Oscars.
