Hi! my name is Tom Clabots and I'm a photographer from Antwerp, Belgium. I was born blind and couldn’t see at all until the age of 5. Still suffering from several impairments of vision, including tunnel vision, I fell in love with photography around the age of 16. I experimented with a lot of different lenses but fell in love with the 50mm lens. Turns out I see the world constantly in 50mm compositions, without all the distracting peripheral “noise” that people with good eye-sight experience. Shooting street photography, concert photography, portraits and fashion for more than a decade, I found out that my condition isn’t an obstacle so much as a tool. It’s what defines me as an artist and definitely turned a disadvantage into my own personal advantage.
